But, most people avoid their conscious thought and move further. However, this is not the case in individuals with OCD. They have repetitive and intrusive thoughts that are beyond their control. The individual is not able to forget or ignore the thoughts which bother him\/her the most. Unfortunately, many people with eating disorders go undiagnosed for a long time because they are ashamed of their behavior and don\u2019t want anyone to know about it.<\/p>\n<h2>Defining Eating Disorders<\/h2>\n<p>Eating disorders are defined as \u201cserious mental illnesses that involve abnormal eating habits.\u201d There are three main\u00a0types of eating disorders:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Anorexia nervosa:\u00a0<\/strong>People with anorexia nervosa have a distorted view of their body weight and see themselves as overweight even when they are dangerously underweight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bulimia nervosa:\u00a0<\/strong>People with anorexia nervosa have a distorted view of their body weight and see themselves as overweight even when they are dangerously underweight.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Binge eating disorder:\u00a0<\/strong>Binge eating disorder is characterized by periods of uncontrolled overeating, but unlike bulimia, there is no purging behavior afterward.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While all these are different types of eating disorders, they all have a distorted sense of body image and a preoccupation with food and weight. However more than a third of U.S. adults report getting less than that amount, and this is a problem! Studies have shown that adults who sleep fewer than six hours per night are more likely to be overweight or obese. Because they eat more when their energy levels get low from lack of slumber (and the consumption of extra calories).<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a strong connection between obesity and sleep deprivation. Also, lack of slumber can lead to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heart disease,<\/li>\n<li>Stroke,<\/li>\n<li>Diabetes,<\/li>\n<li>Mental health\u00a0problems (e.g.,\u00a0anxiety),<\/li>\n<li>Headaches or migraines,<\/li>\n<li>High\u00a0blood pressure,<\/li>\n<li>Low sex drive in men,<\/li>\n<li>Trouble getting pregnant in women\u2026 again the list goes on!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Meditation<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; text-align: justify; background: white; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; color: black;\">Meditation is a simple and powerful tool for self-healing. It teaches us how to find peace in our everyday lives, no matter what surrounds us may be doing or requesting attention at any given moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; text-align: justify; background: white; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; color: black;\"><br \/>\nAwareness practices such as meditation help one develop patience with themselves because they force you to take time out from the hustle bustle that constitutes much modern life these days so we can reconnect back into ourselves again, this includes all aspects including\u00a0mental health\u00a0which will improve after practice becomes routine habit has been established.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"margin: 0in; line-height: 14.4pt; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Mindfulness<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; vertical-align: baseline;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif; color: black;\">Mindfulness is good for your\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;\">mental health<span style=\"color: black;\">. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, up to 40 million Americans suffer from\u00a0<\/span>anxiety disorders<span style=\"color: black;\">\u00a0such as\u00a0<\/span>PTSD<span style=\"color: black;\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>panic attacks<span style=\"color: black;\">.
